I know it's been awhile since I've posted to my blog when I go to log in to my blog service and the homepage is completely different! It took me a minute for me to figure out how the heck I was supposed to post a message!
We got our Christmas Cards in the mail today. To many this may seem to be jumping the gun. However, I'm going to be extremely busy in the next couple of weeks and knew it would never get done if I didn't do it early. Plus, I already had the picture I wanted and knew what template I wanted to use... why not?
Katelyn always loves it when I get boxes from White House Custom Colour. The arrows on the box five it away. WHCC boxes means a Tootsie pop. In every one. I kept it this time. However, she was extremely helpful in folding the 55+ cards. I ordered 50 cards. They come in packs of "25." "25" being in parentheses because they always send a few extra cards to be used by the photographer as studio samples. Which is really nice when the cards were for me in the first place!
And, now that they're all folded up... and I have the invitations to our housewarming party designed and printed off... I'll be able to get to addressing cards tonight! Then to the mail box tomorrow.
Anyone interested in ordering a custom card for Christmas, contact me. I can use any picture (even not taken by me, unless copyrighted by another professional). If you'd like, I can do re-touching on your photo as well.
All of my Christmas Card templates can be viewed here: 2009 Holiday Card Catalog

I just learned some new photoshop skills, which leave me wondering why I have paid for textures in the past. All I need to do is take a picture of something texturie (like the stucco on my house), and wa-lah!
Combination of 2 textures. 1 purchased frame, and 1 picture of stucco. Photo taken in Oak Grove Saturday.

I've been working on a new calendar, powered by Google so that potential clients know when I'm available to shoot before they call or e-mail. To see this calendar anytime, click on the "Availability Calendar" link in the navigation bar above. To book an available date, call or e-mail. Available time during weekdays are always in the evening (around 7pm). Saturday sessions can book any time. As I book sessions, I will mark the days as "Not Available" on the calendar in red. Available days are listed in green.
There are a lot of non available days in September due to us moving (next week). If you can only be available for a session on a day already listed as "not available," call or e-mail anyway. In most instances, something can be worked out. Except on Sunday;) Eventually I hope to have in place an on-line booking service. So if anyone knows of a website I should visit, let me know!

I wasn't a contracted photographer for this wedding reception. It was my brother-in-laws wedding, and I wanted to experiment with taking pictures at extremely high ISO's. For anyone who doesn't know about a digital camera's ISO... here is a very brief explanation. ISO to a digital camera, is what film speed is to a film camera. The lower the film speed, the more information is recorded. The higher the speed, the less information because there isn't as much light available and "noise" or "grain" is present. Film speed 200, or ISO 200 is for outside is good daylight. 800 film or ISO is for darker locations, or WELL lit indoors. Less common use is speed 1600, but digital technology is making it so that little "noise" is present at this high of an ISO. "Noise" in a photograph, refers to the grain you see, particularly in low light photos (therefore using a high ISO). In your professional bodied cameras, you can now shoot at ISO's of 12,800 or 25,600! Although I don't recommend using these, it's nice to have that option if it means the difference between getting the shot, or not getting it!
The photos below were all taken at ISO 12,800 with a Canon 5D Mark II, no flash, in a dimly lit gymnasium:
My fave of the evening! Despite the fact there were empty seats everywhere... Calvin decided to plant himself, and his dessert right in the middle of the dance floor! Check out Kate's game face!
I'm not thrilled about my double chin in this picture! But, It's a good one of Jared, so I'll deal and post it anyway!
Calvin totally asked the bride to dance...
Jocelyn and Uncle Jordan... cha cha cha.

It's crazy to think we're already thinking about fall photos! I've had several inquires about when the best time is to do fall portraits in St. George. If you are wanting a fall look (with pretty leaves), the best time to book is in November. Preferably LATE November.
This photo was taken on November 27th:
Another, earlier option is choosing a location like Oak Grove. Oak Grove is on the south eastern side of Pine Valley Mountain, and is accessible through Leeds, UT. It's about 30 - 45 minutes from St. George (depending on how fast you drive;).
This photo was taken on September 29th in Oak Grove:
