January 2008

Did you wonder...

if I fell off the face of the Earth?

I practically have I guess. I've been working my butt off on this whole home improvement thing I got going! I'm totally exhausted and can barely keep my eyes open even now typing this. I've been going to bed at 9:30pm... so who knows why I'm up now. Guess I'm just trying to get some things ready to mail tomorrow.

I have some more pictures to post. I'll upload sometime soon I hope.

I'm super slow now because I have a cold too...

fun fun!

Mmmmmm.....

The place that yummy goodness comes from, being built VERY close to my house!

Yay!

Random Tidbits...

I decided to upload some pictures today. So here are some random tidbits (mostly from today and yesterday).

Travertine. This is what is in our kitchen and bathrooms now. It's kind of like tile, except it's a natural stone and not man made. This is a up-close picture of some of the details.

Birds. Yesterday when I was in the kitchen I heard a swarm of flapping wings. I looked up to see this site out my window. Robins! Yes, we have them in So. Utah... but I've never seen this many at a time. This is common site in Kentucky where I grew up, so it made me a little homesick...
Img_2803resize

Anemone Poppies. Of the Mr. Fokker variety. Blooming away in my garden... They make me happy.

TNT Pop-It's generously spread about on my doorstep by Jared. He did this to scare the pants off of me when I got home from "girls night" last night. It worked.

Tonight we start laying lamanite.

Hope you have a great and relaxing weeking. Mine will be anything but!

YAWN.......................

I am sooooo tired!!!!

We started this whole home improvement project a week ago. Last Wednesday Jared called to say that the people would be over the next day to start laying the floors. So I got everything ready to move out of the kitchen. Thursday they laid Travertine in the kitchen and bathrooms. Friday they grouted everything. Saturday I spent all day painting the bathrooms (walls and ceilings). Sunday was a day of rest... LOL. Monday I spent all day painting in the kitchen. Monday night, Jared sealed the kitchen and one of the bathrooms. Today I finished up the painting in the master bathroom. Then after I put the kids to bed, I started to tape up the 2 walls left to paint in the kitchen, and washed the walls in the laundry room. I will paint those tomorrow! But for now I'm ready to CRASH! Sooooo tired!

And since I haven't had anything interesting to blog... and probably won't for awhile... I thought I'd post this RELAXING video of pictures from when Jared and I went to Jamaica in October...

January 19th - 2008

I'm painting today. How's that for nesting?

Floor - Day 2

The kids are diggin' this floor thing! Here is a peek of what breakfast looked like this morning...

Breakfast

Ummm... French Toast sticks from Burger King and PBS cartoons! What can top that???

The workers are here now putting grout down. They got here a bout 20 minutes before I had to take Jocelyn to school, so Jocelyn got her morning Spanish fix in. Friday is a short school day, so I pick her up an hour earlier than usual. This means they should still be here when she gets home...

Jared e-mailed me some pictures that he took with his camera last night. Yes, that's a big bellied me standing in the doorway. We have the baby gate up because we aren't supposed to walk on it a lot, and the kids were totally attracted to it... LOL!

And our bathroom... which already has grout...

Katelyn now refers to our carpet as our "yucky floor..."

Floor Project.

Last night we started work on our new floors. Jared picked up the Travertine for our kitchen, laundry room and bathrooms. Then he spent all evening demolishing the old flooring and floor boards to get it ready for this morning. (I went scrapbooking at a friends house). Now, honestly I did feel bad about it. I had already planned it before I knew we were doing demolishing yesterday. And I asked if I could go and he said okay... There wasn't really that much I could do without getting in the way anyway... but I guess he was a little irritated nonetheless. SORRY BABY!

This morning about 9ish people started to show up to work on the floor. Jared stuck around for awhile to see what was going on and to see if they needed anything. Then he left for work. For the first half of the morning, Kate, Calvin and I watched Toy Story and PBS cartoons. All the while, 5 Mexican men worked on our floors (starting with our bathroom so that we would have a working bathroom by night time). Around noon, I picked up Jocelyn and we went to McDonald's for lunch. We stayed there for 2 hours, because we didn't have anything else to do... and then went back home. I put Calvin and Kate down for a nap and Jocelyn stayed up and worked puzzles with me. Now, I mentioned the "Mexican men" above, because Jocelyn spent the rest of the afternoon attempting to brush up on her Spanish. She followed them around, and one of the guys was super nice and was trying to teach her words. It was really cute, and she got a kick out of it.

The Travertine is completely laid in the kitchen, laundry room and master bathroom. It is laid in the spare bathroom except for 2 tiles. We were 2 short, picked up a few extra tonight. They are coming back tomorrow morning at 8am to grout everything. My bathroom has grout already... but everything else will get it tomorrow! Then after that dries, we will seal it. I'd guess Saturday.

I have pictures... I've been taking them as we go, and Jared's been taking them too. But I currently can't get to my computer. I'm on Jared's lap top now. We can't walk on the floor in the kitchen to get to our office! So I won't be able to upload anything until tomorrow probably. It looks really great though! I'm soooooo excited!

ETA: I took some pictures with the camera on my phone. Not great pictures... but you get the idea!

Calvin's Cars

These were in a package that Calvin got from Grandma in Kentucky (aka Grandma Tucky). We decided to video him using Jared's new digital point & shoot. The video is actually really good, but I had to compress it A LOT to get it on here!

Little Pill Poppers...

More drama from the "Fun With My Kids" series...

Last night we had the privilege of speaking with a nice lady from poison control.

Calvin had immunizations yesterday, so I bought some Tylenol to help ease the discomfort... you know the drill. I opened the bottle and gave Calvin 3 chewable tablets (as that was the dose for his age and weight). Then I went outside with all 3 kids. They played in the street and I planted stuff in a flower bed. Then because the sun was setting, the kids got cold. Never mind the fact that Katelyn was wearing short sleeves, shorts, and sandals (what season do you think this girl)!  I told them that they could go in.

Several hours later, Calvin started following me around with the bottle of Tylenol in his hand saying, "more, more, more." Translated, that meant he wanted MORE!  I told Jared about his "darn son wanting to pop pills." and that I don't really know how he got the bottle because it was on the counter (where he can't reach or yet climb).

On a whim Jared decided to count the number in the bottle. It was a brand new 30 count bottle of 80mg chewable tablets... newly opened to give Calvin his earlier dose. I'd only given Calvin 3... so it should have been easy math... right?

Well, there were 17 left in the bottle. Meaning there were 10 unaccounted for! And that's where we freaked! Jocelyn said she didn't do it, that Katelyn did it. Katelyn said that she didn't do it. Then I somehow pried it out of Jocelyn that she had eaten 1. Katelyn said she ate 2. Jocelyn said that she gave 1 to Calvin (which means he would have had 4 total).

Jocelyn told us the story about how Katelyn got the bottle and opened it and dumped them all over. Katelyn got a huge butt whoopin' because we were mad and overreacted... and we sent them all to bed without finishing their dinner.  This was mostly so that we could sit down and calm down and figure things out.

After a bit we had the kids come back out and found out that really JOCELYN opened the medicine and was handing it out. But she told us Katelyn did it because she didn't want to get in trouble. Now Jared feels horrible for punishing Kate and has been working hard to make it up to her.

Truth is, we don't know for sure how many Calvin took. Jocelyn said that she dropped the bottle on the floor and they all picked them up and put them back in the bottle. Which, if you know anything about a 22 month old... he was picking them up and stuffing them in his mouth as fast as possible! So it was completely possible that he'd had at least 10 pills total! I got on-line to see how worried I should be, and everything I found said that he'd have liver damage, possible kill his liver and die within 3 days or something like that... so I freaked out and Jared called poison control to see if we needed to go to the emergency room!

Basically they told us he was fine! He would have had to eaten the whole bottle, plus some to have liver damage! I guess your body can handle 200mg per kg of weight. So, whew!

And wouldn't you know... they got into the medicine after they went inside, and I was still outside working in the garden.

Sneaky buggers!

Jocelyn had to go to bed right away without finishing dinner or reading a night-time story or anything. Katelyn got to stay up and watch a movie with dad, and today he is going to come pick her up for lunch and take her out. Jocelyn doesn't get to watch TV for a week (which will probably kill her), and she's actually been cute about trying to make it up to Katelyn. She said that she was going to make her bed when she gets home from school... and keeps talking about all the things she is going to do for her. Some of them are strange... for instance... she sat next to her for breakfast this morning and fed her cereal like she was a baby?!??

So now you know... If your toddler swallows an 80mg per pill, 30 count bottle of Tylenol... he/she's probably okay, LOL!

Sheesh!

I need a hot bath!

"I'm Leaving You At School."

Friday Jocelyn did something to make me really mad. Making me mad is easy when I'm 32 weeks pregnant! Ask Jared.

I drove up in the pick up lane at Jocelyn's school and waited in line for her to come get in the car. At first I was about 7 cars back. Then finally I made it to 2nd in line, and then 1st in line. Jocelyn probably had spotted me when I was 4th or 5th in the line of cars...

When she spotted me, she proceeded to very slowly (slower than snails pace) walk backward to the car. ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE FRONT OF THE SCHOOL she walked backward to the car! For the first distance of one foot (that probably took 1 minute) it was cute and amusing. And then after sitting there, and sitting there... with Calvin yelling, "I POOP! I POOP!" in the back seat, I started to get fumin' mad! One by one I saw the cars pull up behind me. Their kids ran and hopped in their cars, and then drove around me out of the parking lot.

There I still sat. Calvin yelling, "I POOP, I POOP!" Me getting mad. While Jocelyn slowly inched closer and closer.

I guess under normal situations, I would have honked and gotten out of the car and yelled, "GET YOUR BUTT OVER TO THIS CAR RIGHT NOW!" But, I didn't want to make a scene in front of my daughters elementary school.

So I sat.

And then all of the kids were gone. All of the other cars were gone. The teachers went back inside.

And there I sat.

Finally Jocelyn made it to the car and opened the door. She tried to play (what she thought was) an amusing game of peek-a-boo with the car door... and that's when I said, "JOCELYN, GET YOUR BUTT IN HERE RIGHT NOW!"

Then I proceeded to let her know how mad I was, and I told her that if she wanted to stay at school so bad I'd just leave her there next week and she could sit in the office all afternoon. That's where the kids go whose parents don't pick them up.

Fast forward to today.

For some reason, all of the clocks in our house are set at different times. For instance the one in our bedroom is 15 minutes fast. Jared did this to trick me into getting out of bed 15 minutes earlier than usual. It worked for one day. Today, I was sitting here sending an e-mail to my mom, and the clock said that I had 5 minutes until time to pick her up. I got the kids and got in the car and away we went! On the way, I glanced at the clock in the truck, and it said 11:58am! According to that, I was 8 minutes late!

So... I pulled up, and all of the kids were gone, all of the cars were gone, all of the teachers were gone. This meant one thing. Jocelyn was sitting in the office waiting for me to get her. I couldn't help but laugh.

I jumped out and ran into the school building. And there she sat looking like a lost puppy in the pound.

So I said, "Told you I was going to leave you to sit in the office!"

Way to follow through mom!

Special gift for Kate.

Before Christmas, I took the girls to Target to pick out what they wanted for Christmas. I took along my camera so that I could take pictures and e-mail them to my mom. It really was a fun idea!

Katelyn fell in love with this huge stuffed kitten. I told her that there was NO WAY that grandma was going to get that for her because it was WAY TOO BIG to reasonably send through the mail. Of course kids don't understand logic like that.

Christmas morning comes... and the next thing I know... she's pulling this out of a box:

Wouldn't  you know it! She got it! And her reaction was just the same as in the store...

Heartwarming I guess...

And it didn't come from grandma. It came from Aunt Carla in Florida. Lucky girl...

New Monitor

I got this awesome new monitor for Christmas from Jared:

Pretty cool huh? Only thing, is that I can't figure out how to calibrate it correctly. I've ran it through program after program and nothing seems to make the colors look right. Which is a bummer because I edit pictures so much. But I'm trying to figure things out and work through it. But if I post pictures with crazy looking colors... that's the reason ;)

I'm actually

scrapbooking today.

Isn't it amazing!

Feeling Old...

Several events have caused me to feel old lately. Now I realize that all of my friends are several years older than me. That's a result of MY friends going to high school with MY husband (who is 3 years older than I).

So... Yes. You guys are old too...

Yesterday I combined my Sunday School class with another guy. He taught the lesson while I ran around like a mad woman trying to figure out where everyone else was supposed to go. When I was finished I decided to sit in on the end of his lesson in an attempt to help control the 16 kids between the ages of 12 & 15. At one point in the lesson, he asked if anyone remembered how old they were in 1993. I blurted out that I was 12 years old. And then when no one else said anything I suddenly realized that it was because most of them hadn't even been born yet!

I suddenly felt old.

Then... later that afternoon... two boys came to our house (age 15) to collect Fast Offerings. My husband happened to be playing on a Nintendo 64 game system at the time. Yes, I realize that the game system is around 10 years old... and is VERY outdated as far as gaming systems go... But there was something about the way those boys laughed at our Nintendo 64 that made me feel dated a little. In my defense... the game system sits in a box probably 340 days of the year. It only comes out when Jared and I feel like a ragin' game of Mario Kart... or if Jared feels like "playing" video games with the kids. They don't quite realize just yet that they are NOT winning. Usually they aren't even playing for that matter. They are holding a controller watching their dad play thinking it's them!

THEN... today I caught my daughters doing something they shouldn't have been doing. I called them on it... and Jocelyn lied right to my face. So as a result I made her lay down with the other 2 kids and they were going to have NAP TIME! Katelyn fell asleep almost immediately. Calvin kept sneaking out of bed. Jocelyn kept coaxing Calvin into sneaking out of bed and into her bed. I took Jocelyn's ladder away (top bunk). I spent the next hour making repeated trips into the room to yell and throw a fit and stick kids back in bed (all while Kate slept). Then finally Calvin fell asleep. So I laid down for MY nap. It was then that I realized... I'M A MOM! Yes... I've known for years that I'm a mom. But not only am I a mom... but I'm THAT mom. That mom that makes her kids take naps, and sit at the table until they finish their dinner... blah, blah, blah. I'm MY mom... like we all become.

And as I was laying there in bed, tired... wanting a nap... 31 weeks pregnant... I realized that I was old. And quite chunky as I had to completely sit up to roll over. *Luckly I have no pictures to go with this post.

But I take solace in knowing that all my friends including my husband are older... He'll be 30 this year! Now THAT's OLD!

Happy New Year!

Last night we rang in the new year at a friends house. My girls stayed over at their grandma's house, so we just had Calvin with us.  My friend Beka had her camera and took these pictures of Calvin and her daughter Lily playing Peek-A-Boo with their matching style blankies from Target. Beka has the same camera than me, and got a cool new lens (so she wanted to play), and she has photoshop too and can use actions. Lucky gal! I didn't take my camera, so I'm blogging her pictures:
